Yesterday, Twitch streamer HandicapableOne beat the Ghost of the Babe DLC for notoriously challenging platformer Jump King using nothing more than his chin and a controller.
Streamer Beats Jump King DLC With His Chin
The run took HandicapableOne 66 hours and 21 minutes to complete with 95766 jumps and 5851 falls.
Rather than some audacious stunt of the ilk of beating Dark Souls with a toaster, HandicapableOne’s use of his chin is born of necessity rather than choice. He has muscular dystrophy.
The incurable disorder causes the exponential breakdown of muscular mass over time. In HandicapableOne’s case, he’s unable to use his hands to play with a controller due to severe muscle weakness.
For reference, able-bodied popular Twitch streamer, Forsen, took 28 hours and 6 minutes to beat the same DLC. xQc, another big-name Twitch Streamer, took 48 hours and 52 minutes with 80237 jumps and 4815 falls.
The feat itself is not only a testament to HandicapableOne perseverance, but highlights that the video game industry has a way to go when it comes to accessibility for people with disabilities.
Upon finally beating the Jump King DLC, HandicapableOne said with a palpable sense of relief;
Yes, we did it. Finally – I can breathe. Wow. That was the hardest game I’ve ever played in my life.
Next Up – Dark Souls
Looking to the future, HandicapableOne has set his sights on beating Dark Souls in much the same manner. Jump King, despite its difficulty, remains relatively manageable as it requires no more than three inputs.
Dark Souls, on the other hand, involves much more sophisticated controls alongside a faster game-pace and notoriously challenging boss fights. How HandicapableOne decides to approach the challenge will be fascinating to watch and we fully expect him to succeed.
